Gunung Jerai is the most magnificent geological site that can be considered as a Malaysian valuable heritage. The formations of Gunung Jerai consists of Triassic age Igneous surrounded by metamorphic rocks. The metamorphic rock consisted of schist and quartzite rock of Cambrian age. The granite rocks were cut by quartz veins and feldspar pegmatites which contain a substantial composition of mica and tourmaline. Pegmatite dykes and quartz veins is a possible new method of nature perseverance and may be used as reference for researches and to educate the next generation. The geological location of Gunung Jerai which is 3992 feet (1224 metre), made it one of the unique heritage in Malaysia. The five islands along the seaside to Lembah Bujang namely Pulau Bunting, Pulau Songsong, P. Telor, P. Bidan and P. Sayak, strengthen the uniqueness of it. The geomorphology of the surrounding area consisted of peak of mountains and hills especially the peak of Gunung Jerai. The main communication among the villages are through the river. The use of rivers and hills to carry out their daily activities. has been proven through the archaeological finding. For example, the community used granite as base structure in building their home and temple structures. All of these activities shown the uniqueness of Gunung Jerai since the third century A.D. Therefore, Gunung Jerai and its surrounding areas not only contribute toward the geological knowledge, but also of archaeological heritage value. Due to these facts, it is recommended that this area be conserved as a global geoheritage package.
